Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the VOIXYS softswitch—from the open-source engines under the hood to deployment, billing and support. Can’t find your answer? Our team is one message away.
Platform
What exactly is VOIXYS?
VOIXYS is a complete VoIP softswitch built entirely on open-source engines. It combines Class 4 wholesale routing and Class 5 subscriber services with real-time rating, billing, SIP trunking and DID management in a single platform—available as a managed SaaS or self-hosted on your own infrastructure.
Which open-source engines power the platform?
Kamailio handles SIP signalling and routing, FreeSWITCH provides Class 5 media and transcoding, CGRateS delivers real-time rating and billing, and Asterisk powers PBX and IVR features. There is no proprietary component in the signalling, media or billing path.
What is the difference between Class 4 and Class 5?
Class 4 is the wholesale layer: it transits and routes traffic between carriers using least-cost routing, SIP interconnect and failover. Class 5 is the subscriber layer that serves end users with features like extensions, IVR, voicemail and call queues. VOIXYS runs both in one platform.
Can I run VOIXYS for resellers and sub-accounts?
Yes. The platform is built around accounts, resellers and sub-accounts. You can create resellers, customers and branded white-label portals, each with isolated rate plans, trunks, DIDs and CDRs, so you can sell minutes and services under your own brand.
Deployment & hosting
Can I self-host, or is it SaaS only?
Both options are available. We can host and operate the platform for you as a managed SaaS, or you can deploy the same open-source stack on your own servers or private cloud with our guidance, hardening and support. The choice is yours, with no lock-in either way.
Where is the managed SaaS hosted?
Our managed infrastructure is hosted in the EU, with on-premises and private-cloud options available for customers with specific data-residency or sovereignty requirements. We can discuss the right region and hosting model for your traffic during onboarding.
How long does setup and onboarding take?
A managed SaaS environment can typically be provisioned within a few business days, after which you can onboard customers and start routing traffic. Self-hosted deployments depend on your infrastructure, but we provide a guided setup and configuration to get you live quickly.
Billing & rating
How does real-time rating and billing work?
Rating and billing are powered by CGRateS. Every call is rated in real time against your rate plans, balances are debited live for prepaid accounts, and detailed CDRs are generated for postpaid invoicing. The engine supports multi-currency, tiered rates and per-account pricing.
Do you support both prepaid and postpaid?
Yes. Prepaid accounts are charged in real time with live balance checks and automatic call cut-off when funds run out, while postpaid accounts accumulate usage into CDRs for periodic invoicing. You can mix both models across different accounts.
Can I import my own rate decks?
Absolutely. You can import your own carrier and customer rate decks, define destinations and rate plans, and apply margins per account. Your rate plans and pricing data always remain yours and can be exported at any time.
Open source & licensing
Is the platform really open source?
Yes. VOIXYS is built on established open-source projects, including Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, CGRateS and Asterisk. There is no proprietary black box in the call or billing path, so you benefit from open standards, transparency and a large community ecosystem.
Am I locked into VOIXYS?
No. Because the platform uses open standards and open-source engines, there is no proprietary lock-in. Your data, CDRs and rate plans stay yours and remain portable, and self-hosted customers run the same stack independently of our managed service.
Do I get access to the source if I self-host?
Self-hosted deployments run on the same open-source components you can inspect and audit. We provide the deployment guidance, configuration and hardening needed to operate the stack, along with support to keep it running reliably on your infrastructure.
Support
What support options are available?
We offer technical support across both managed and self-hosted deployments, covering configuration, routing, rating and troubleshooting. Support is delivered by engineers who work with the platform every day, not a generic first-line desk.
Do you offer SLAs?
Yes. Managed SaaS plans include a 99.9% uptime SLA with monitoring and proactive maintenance. For self-hosted customers we offer support agreements with defined response targets to match your operational requirements.
Can you help me migrate from my current switch?
Yes. We help carriers and service providers migrate from legacy or proprietary switches by mapping your existing routing, trunks, rate plans and DIDs onto the platform, with a planned cutover to minimise disruption to live traffic.
Still have a question?
